Why Thailand?

Bangkok, the city of angels

The legend has it that Bangkok was named Krung Thep by the Thais, for its resemblance to the ancient capital. Just like Ayutthaya, Bangkok began its life as a humble settlement nestled among the Chao Phraya River. However, it wasn't until the 17th century, in the writing of Frey Nicolao d'Oliveira, that Bangkok came to be called 'the city of angels'.

You can still see traces of ancient Bangkok today. Beyond the array of shops with international brands, peaceful streetside cafes selling the iconic Thai iced tea and world class restaurants with a variety of global cuisine, you can still wander the seven hills and see the city from above, taking in the rolling terracotta rooftops, the whitewashed walls and on the horizon, the soft blue sea.

Bangkok is a city that never sleeps. From the bustling markets to the vibrant nightlife, there's always something happening in this dynamic city. Whether you're looking for adventure, culture, or just a good time, Bangkok has it all.

Places to visit in Thailand

My favorite tourist attractions in Bangkok

Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan

Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan or Wat Arun, "Temple of Dawn" is a Buddhist temple in Bangkok Yai district of Bangkok, Thailand, on the Thonburi west bank of the Chao Phraya River. The temple derives its name from the Hindu god Aruna, often personified as the radiations of the rising sun.

Address:

Thanon Luang Pho Chaem, Mueang, Phuket 83130

What I like about it

Wat Arun Bangkok, also known as the Temple of Dawn, is one of Bangkok's most iconic Buddhist temples. Situated on the western bank of the Chao Phraya River.

CHIANG RAI

I’ve visited Chiang Rai a few times over the years, and it remains one of my favorite areas of Thailand. It doesn’t have the luxurious hotels, resorts and restaurants that you’ll find in Phuket, Koh Samui and Bangkok, but it’s an absolute gem when it comes to unique temples, rolling tea plantations and stunning north country scenery.

Address:

the city of Chiang Rai is home to Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai International Airport, located at Phaholyotin Road

What I like about it

A bustling night market where you can find local crafts, enjoy street food, and soak in the lively atmosphere

The Phi Phi Islands

The Phi Phi Islands are a popular island group in Thailand's Andaman Sea, known for dramatic limestone cliffs, white-sand beaches, and clear turquoise waters perfect for snorkeling and diving. The six islands include the larger, inhabited Phi Phi Don (which has accommodations, restaurants, and a vibrant nightlife) and the uninhabited Phi Phi Leh, which features Maya Bay (of The Beach fame).

Address:

Rua Santos-O-Velho 2 e 4

What I like about it

The Phi Phi Islands are one of the most picture perfect paradises in the world, and one of the most famous tourist destinations in Thailand, and even the whole of Southeast Asia!
